Anjuna Beach Cows

Even the cows in Anjuna like to chill on the beach. In general all the cows I have met so far have been the most chill cows I have ever seen. They do what they want whenever they want. These three had just walked up and lay down for some late afternoon sunshine and chill electronica music coming from the nearest Beach Shack.

I find that I am taking a lot of photos of the cows. They are everywhere here. And people mostly just ignore them. I often get asked why I am taking photos of the cows. They don’t seem to believe me when I say that in other countries the cows don’t get to wander the streets.

That made me think about what people consider normal in their everyday lives. People often tell me that there just isn’t anything exceptional in their daily lives that they can photograph. My thought is that, as humans, we tend to disregard our actual surroundings and instead our brain fills in the details using symbols that it already knows. This allows the brain to use less effort paying attention to details. When visiting a new place the brain has new surroundings and therefore pays more attention, that is why it seems more interesting and exciting than normal life.

I encourage everyone to take photos of their daily lives. It may feel unexceptional to them, but to others it is always interesting.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at and writing about my experiences at
