Anticipating Holi

This was shot in one of the bazaar’s in Jaipur. Many of the stores there are taking the powdered color and dividing it up into smaller plastic packages in preparation for the Holi festival coming up on the 23rd and 24th. The Holi festival is celebrated all over India, but I have been told the two best places to be involved in the fun is in Varanasi and Pushkar. Thus I have booked a room in Pushkar and I am getting ready to be all sorts of colours. I suppose I should buy some clothes that i’m ok with getting completely destroyed.

This shot was done with the Fujifilm X100T. My plan was to send this camera back for storage, but every time I get into a street photography situation this is the one I grab instead of the Sony. I really need to find a way to lighten my pack a bit and eliminating this camera would be a quick and easy way to do that. I am really torn if I should keep hauling it around, get rid of it. The menu system is a bit finicky, but its easy to operate, has great colors, and because it looks so retro people are more accepting of getting their image shot with it. It’s going to be a tough decision when it actually comes time for me to send the next package back.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at Pixelbip.com and writing about my experiences at EarthToKeir.com
