Blue City Sunset
Bundi is also known as the Blue City. It shows in this photo very well. Many of the houses here are painted blue. I have no idea why but they are. Kind of like how many of the houses in Jaipur are painted pink.
The whole time I have been in India I have wanted to get some good photos of the rooftops. This is the first photo of rooftops that I’m happy enough to post. Of course it helps that the sunset was amazing. There were no clouds for the light to play off, but the sheer size of the sun as it set was just amazing.
One of the great things about India is that so many of the rooftops are accessible to anyone. Especially in smaller towns like Bundi. All I have to do is ask and people are more than happy to allow me to the roof. In this case I just went to the roof of the guest house I’m staying in and started shooting.
I found that the evening is the time that monkeys roam around the town. They jump and run across the roofs to wherever it is the monkeys need to go. As I was shooting this I had one hop to the roof right beside me. He strolled past me not 10 feet away. Honestly I was a bit freaked out as I had left a camera against one of the walls and I seriously thought the monkey was going to steal it. However he seemed more preoccupied with what looked like a painful parasite problem on his backside, and with getting to the house next door.
this image is not an HDR image. Even though I was bracketing I decided to just pick the exposure that had captured the best range of tones and work with a single image. So only lightroom was used for RAW editing, then Photoshop was used to remove the enormous amount of dust spots that I have on my Sony sensor. I really need to find a place I can trust to get the sensor cleaned.
