I am currently having very strong feelings of desire for the FujiFilm X Pro2 camera so I created a Youtube playlist over on my Pixelbip Youtube channel. Click the link above to watch over 15 videos that will teach you all you could ever want to know about this camera.

I know that anyone who has ever picked up a camera with the intent of learning how to take better photos will relate to what I am experiencing right now. Its called GAS, or Gear Acquisition Syndrome. There is no logical reason for me to want this camera, but I can’t get it out of my mind. Being in Cambodia I don’t have easy access to buy this camera which is a major reason I have not already bought one.

In an attempt to satisfy my cravings, or maybe it’s driving my cravings, I have been obsessively watching every Youtube video I can find about this camera. Some of the videos are first impressions from when it was released in February, some are more recent reviews of how the camera works in the real world. Even more are photo essays put to music showing all the wonderful photos that this camera is capable of taking.

FujiFilm X-Pro2

Look at this sexyness of a camera!

I have gone so far as to create a playlist of some of the videos I found. This is by no means the entire list of X-Pro2 videos available, or even an entire list of the ones I have watched. However if anyone is interested in learning more about this camera then head over to my playlist. I have selected a few very informative and critical as well as humorous videos. The link to my playlist is right here Youtube Playlist.

I keep asking myself why I want this camera. I already carry the Fujifilm X100T, and the Sony A7Rii. Both amazing cameras that allow me to shoot a wide range of subjects. I’m going to try and explain what is driving my thoughts on getting the X-Pro2 to replace the Sony. Honestly carrying two cameras while backpacking is already enough. Adding a third would just be ridiculous.

Why do I want this camera?

1 – The X100T I own has an amazing electronic viewfinder. Especially compared to the Sony A7Rii. I am able to see colours more vividly and with a closer resemblance to how the final image will appear after I import it to Lightroom. My thought is that the viewfinder on the X-Pro2 will be as good or better than the X100T and far superior to the Sony.

2 – If I am going to be traveling I’m thinking it would be a great idea to carry cameras that are made by the same manufacturer. If nothing else I can eliminate the different batteries and chargers that I carry for the Sony.

3 – The X-Pro2 is slightly lighter than the Sony. Also its much cooler looking. And having a cool camera goes a long way.

4 – The X100T is totally awesome. And I love the fixed 35mm equivalent f/2.0 lens. But I also like taking super wide angle landscape photos. The Sony handles the wide angle stuff amazingly well with the 10-18mm lens I have mounted to it. Wide angle lenses are also available for the Fuji.

5 – The time lapse function is built into the Fuji cameras. With Sony I have to spend an extra $10 to buy this feature as an add-on App. This is simply ridiculous considering how much the Sony cost already.

6 – Speaking of things that suck on the Sony. I have not been able to buy the time lapse feature as their website will not accept my credit card or Paypal. AND the only help available for Sony cameras is directed to their Playstation support, who know nothing about cameras.

7 –  Oh, also its water sealed. Just today I was out shooting at a temple and the rain came down hard. It would be so nice to be able to keep shooting like I used to do on my Canon, and not worry about the rain.

On the downside of buying new gear

1 – MONEY!!! Obviously I would sell the Sony, but still.

2 – The Sony has 42 megapixels where the X Pro2 only has 24. The thing is in reality I have not had anyone mention to me that my the photos taken on the Sony look so much more superior because of the extra megapixels. On the contrary I get great reactions out of the colours and tones that my X100T already gives me. So is this a downside? I suppose at some point the extra megapixels might be useful. But for now not really.

3 – Time and Location. I will be in the US in August, but not always in the same place. Trying to sell an expensive camera like the Sony will be difficult, and I have limited time in the US before I head off to Europe.

4 – Ultimately, what if I end up not liking the X-Pro2. Then oops.

I’m lusting over the FujiFilm X-Pro2. I have no logical reasons only emotional ones as to why I want it. Except some of the reasons actually make sense… At least for now I am not able to buy the camera so maybe this will allow me to have a good cool down period before I get back to the US in August.

Please head on over to the Youtube Playlist I created, watch a few of the videos, then come back and let me know what your opinion is. Should I make this change and go Total Fuji? Or should I keep shooting Hybrid Fuji/Sony?

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at Pixelbip.com and writing about my experiences at EarthToKeir.com
