Handmade Fans

Handmade Fans: Today I am in Vientiane, Laos. It was so hot I almost melted. Maybe that was the inspiration to post the photo of these handmade fans. I shot the image at the umbrella factory in Chiang Mai. Then do make many more paper products than just the ornamental umbrellas.

The plan for today was to get out and shoot a bunch. I did walk around for a bit. the intense 44 Deg C heat drove me back into the comfort of a coffee house with good AC. Now that evening is coming on and the temp has gone down to a bearable 36 the wind has picked up. Like really windy. I’m thinking a storm may be on its way in. From what I understand it has been raining here in Vientiane for the last few days.

Tomorrow I have to be up at 6am to catch a bus to Luang Prabang. For the last week I have barely been getting to sleep by 5am so this may be a bit of a challenge. It’s going to be a 12 hour bus ride through what I have been told is really beautiful scenery. Also I understand there will be lots of cliff drop offs. So I’m hoping my bus driver wants to live as much as I do and takes things easy.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at Pixelbip.com and writing about my experiences at EarthToKeir.com
