Just Passing By

This was shot in color, but thought it would look better as a black and white. I used Lightroom to do the B/W conversion. Increased the Clarity and decreased the Contrast. Then lowered the Blacks to get the look I wanted.

Summertime in Chicago there are a lot of people asking for money on the streets. In winter they find warmer places to do this. Here in Victoria they are there all year round due to the mild weather.

Shot while downtown Chicago. Was out trying to do street photography, which I still find difficult to do. I have a hard time getting into people’s space. It’s something I am working on all the time. I have no problem with friends, but with strangers on the street I find it difficult to raise the camera to my face, unless they are completely distracted by something else.

I am pushing myself to get better at this and I am hoping the photo class I started this week will push me even harder in that direction. Tomorrow I have a photowalk set up with Scott Kelby where I will get a chance to talk to strangers, meet new photographers, and possibly even win cool prizes if I am able to take a photo that the judges deem worthy. I guess it would help if I knew who the judges were.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at Pixelbip.com and writing about my experiences at EarthToKeir.com
