Mekong Sunset

Mekong Sunset: Today was the shittiest day I have had in Laos so far. The only redeeming part was walking down to the river to eat a meal, have a beer, and enjoy this sunset.

Four days ago my amazing Merrel hiking boots, and the sandals I bought in India were stolen from the front of the guest house I am staying in. That was a really shitty thing for someone to do. I bought a new pair of sandals that I was super happy with. They had more support than my old sandals. There were a few blisters, and raw patches on my feet from breaking them in, but I was really happy with them. Until tonight. I was walking to the river to take this photo and I noticed that the sole of my right foot was flapping. $30 CDN down the shitter.

By the time I got home the right sole was almost completely off and the left side was starting to fall apart. On my way home I passed the vendor who sold them and he refused to refund my money or give me any help of any sort. This seems to be typical of people in Laos. They are charging way too much, and there is no service at all.

So my adventure tomorrow will be to get to the Phousi mall and buy a pair of footwear that will not fall apart after 3 days of use.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at and writing about my experiences at
