Myst is one of the several rooftop bars at the Maya Mall. There are things about Thailand that seem to be done here simply because it’s Thailand. Like the Full Moon Parties. Rooftop Bars fall into that category. I can understand that it’s nice to get above street level and see the surrounding sights. But this particular rooftop, is only 6 floors high, and it is surrounded by buildings of the same height. So there really is no spectacular city view like I was hoping. There is a nice view of west so the sunsets should be great. But I keep missing the sunsets these days.

Still I figured I would hang around and see what I could come up with. Shooting in and around malls seems to be a thing I am doing these days. Not sure why, but whatever.

This shot is HDR, though I did not use any special HDR software to create it. I used Lightroom, and Photoshop. At the end I used Macphun’s Noiseless CK, and that’s it. I think I probably sent this image back and forth between Lightroom and Photoshop about 8 times. Each time I used the layer mask and dealt with only one area at a time. Super time intensive, but also kind of fun.

One of the shots that has been blended in was shot at ISO 8000. I wanted to get rid of the blur of the people so I needed a shot with a fast shutter. Putting this shot together really made me realize the amount of noise that is present at high ISO. It became super obvious when compared to the rest of the image shot at ISO 200. Note to future Keir. Shoot at low ISO always always always…

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at and writing about my experiences at
