Road to Mos Eisley

This is shot just outside Hyderabad in an old rock quarry. It really made me think of the road to Mos Eisley from Star Wars. I went to this location with my host, Vish Ken. We arrived just after sunset and waited till the city lights turned on before I shot this image. I didn’t get too much time to shoot in Hyderabad so this will likely be the only photo I post from that city. Unfortunately I ended up having another round of food poisoning while I was there. I won’t go into details of that experience.

Obviously heavily edited. to make this image I first did some editing in Lightroom. The colors were still a bit muted, especially in the area of the city. So I threw the image into Photoshop, created two copies of the layer, set the middle layer to multiply, then created a layer mask to brush through a more saturated city. I also touched up some of the rocks in the same way. While the image was in photoshop I also did some dodging and burning to emphasize the path that runs towards the city, and darken the areas around the path. I felt the whole image was way too sharp so I used the Macphun Focus CK plugin and applied an architectural focus pattern to blur the foreground a bit.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at and writing about my experiences at
