Lion Rock – HDR, ISO 160, 15mm, f/6.3, 1/125th second, Sony A7Rii, Handheld
Lion Rock is located in Piha just west of Auckland, New Zealand. Really super nice beach area. The sand is black and volcanic. Its really nice to walk on. Nice and firm even when it’s wet. There were a bunch of surfers out the day I shot this image. The tide had just started to come in and the surfers started leaving.
The image was processed using Aurora HDR Pro. This really seems to be my default HDR software now. The more subtle and soft default settings are great at getting much more realistic HDR images. I still like to pump up the settings, but I am definitely producing images a bit less intense than when I was using Photomatix Pro.
I still do use Photomatix Pro, and anyone using a PC only has this option at the moment as Aurora is mac only for now.

Growing up one of my biggest dreams was to explore the world. Honestly I never thought this would become reality. But at the end of 2014 I quit my job as a project manager to do just that. I sold most everything I own, packed up the remaining boxes in storage, and set out to see the world. My goals while traveling are to meet people everywhere I go, work on becoming a better photographer, and attempt to stay where the weather is not freezing. Along the way I am posting photos at Pixelbip.com and writing about my experiences at EarthToKeir.com
